EAR SPINNERS
![]() |
The
sensor spinners were made from sheet styrene. The spinner supports
were made from wood (and mat board for the holders). All silver parts were painted with textured paint. I may put micro motors in there someday, but don't count on it. |

I
ran the wiring from a single 1.5 volt AA battery to the two pager
motors. There's a potentiometer along the way to slow down the RPM.
The spinners spin quite rapidly otherwise. They still turn a little
too fast, but this was a really cheap way to get the thing to work
for well under $15.00. The motors cost $2.00 each. I installed a small
switch in the back of the unit which you can hardly notice. |
UPDATE 2 2 |

The
pager motors were nice and quiet, but spun way too fast even when slowed
by the potentiometer. I broke down and bought the two solorbotics motors.
This was a tremendous amount of work to retrofit my original
wooden ear posts to make them fit. They wouldn't fit inside the plastic
ones. I dremeled my fingers to the point where I no longer have fingerprints
on my left hand. They're noisy, spin slower than they should, but they
work. I kind of miss the silent pager motors... |
