I feel like having a coffee every time this part is mentioned. Anyway, it's a plywood ring covered with Armacell pipe insulation. I painted it with silver acrylic artist's paint (Hyplar, in a tube) so it won't crack. |
I made the donut a bit thicker by using a thicker diameter pipe insulation. There's still room for improvement.
The pipe insulation donut has been replaced by a more accurate donut made from wood and Bondo. It took 7 applications of Bondo using the spreader technique like I used on the torso. It was sanded, primed, then sprayed with Fleckstone textured paint. Then I applied a coat of silver followed by a coat of matte finish. It took about two days to complete.
