NEON

Pseudo neon. I'm proud of this one. I made a mat board plate with cutout slots and painted it charcoal gray. Then with a very fine grit sandpaper I sanded 11 straight plexiglas rods (1 centimeter in diameter) which will even the light out later. I glued the 11 straight rods and the two rounded pieces at the top (they had to be cooked in the oven and bent and sanded) which wasn't difficult. Slots were cut out for them as well. Against the plate inside is a piece of orange colored cellophane. It's back lit with a 60 watt bulb. I found a really great (and cheap) $5.00 voice activated circuit board on line at Herbach & Rademan* which couldn't work any better. They even give you instructions for where to connect the AC on the board. The whole entire chest light deal cost under $20.00.

* I'm told the circuit board is no longer available. A possible replacement can be found here at Electronic Goldmine

UPDATE
This is a little more streamlined and made as a removable unit. I used a thicker guage plexiglas and made the back plate a little more accurate. I'm still utilizing the original Herback & Rademan light board. .
